What to expect
The first appointment is an hour long. Your therapist will start by having a conversation with you to learn about your condition, your past medical history and what your expectations are for therapy. The therapist will then perform a detailed exam to identify your impairments and areas that can be addressed with physical therapy. A plan of care will then be established to help you obtain your goals and improve your balance, physical function and quality of life.
Follow up treatment sessions are typically 30 minutes long and can include balance exercises, vestibular training, movement control exercises, manual therapy, education about your condition and establishing a home exercise program. Our hope is that by the time you are finished with physical therapy, you have decreased vertigo and dizziness, improved balance and function and have gained knowledge to promote independence with managing your condition and safety.
What to bring
Dress in loose-fitting clothing that allows for unrestricted mobility. Also, make sure you come with a friend or family member to drive you home if needed. We may also ask you to complete a questionnaire to help us better understand your condition, so please bring glasses if you need.
