We treat many kinds of pain, including lower back pain, neck pain, musculoskeletal pain syndromes, joint pain, headaches, facial pain, spinal pain syndromes, complex regional pain syndromes (RSD), shingles and post herpetic neuralgia, post surgical pain, cancer pain and fibromyalgia.
We use a multispecialty approach to treat pain, which may include steroid injections, various nerve blocks, infusions, synvisc injections, Botox and radiofrequency. Other specialties commonly incorporated into treatment plans include physical therapy, aqua therapy, massage therapy, psychological therapy, stress management, acupuncture, coping skills, biofeedback or hypnosis.
All procedures are done within the Pain Management Center at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital. Fluoroscopy is available within the clinic for those procedures that require the use of x-ray. All procedures are done by our physicians who are board certified in anesthesia as well as pain management, and patients have complete cardiovascular monitoring during procedures. Sedation is also available during procedures if needed.
You will receive a local anesthetic/numbing medication mixed with a steroid. Steroids are helpful in reducing inflammation and swelling to help reduce pain.
There is no specific number of injections. Treatment is individualized for each patient. It also depends on your specific condition, overall health and response to the injection.
The relief of pain varies according to each individual's condition and procedure. The relief is rarely immediate and it may take a few days up to a few weeks until you begin to feel relief.
In order to be seen at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital's Pain Management Center, you will need a referral from a physician. As soon as we have a referral, we will call to arrange an initial appointment.
