Referral Information
We provide outpatient consultative headache evaluation and treatment services. Patients must be referred by a treating physician, nurse-practitioner or physician assistant. We offer acute and parenteral treatment through our Outpatient Infusion Program, available to selected headache patients. We do not provide emergency or inpatient headache services and we are not able to supervise opioid or narcotic maintenance therapies.
In order to obtain an appointment time, the patient must be referred by a provider and must have a Brigham and Women’s Hospital medical record number. If the patient has not previously had care in our system, they may call 866-489-4056 to obtain a medical record number, after which we can enter them into our scheduling system. Please also see our For Patients information page.
After evaluation, the patient may be returned to the referring provider with recommendations for treatment and follow-up. Written consultations are sent to each provider. Occasionally patients may be seen in follow-up. However, because of space and staffing issues, we are not able to follow every patient long term and the initial evaluation does not imply willingness on our part to take over management of a particular patient’s headache problem.
Continuing Education
We are committed to providing high-quality educational experiences to healthcare providers on topics related to headache and migraine. Headache Grand Rounds are held four to six times a year on Tuesday evenings, and are certified for CME.
