Wolski receives 2019 DAISY Nurse Leader Award

The DAISY Nurse Leader Award annually recognizes the incredible work that nurse leaders do every day. At Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital nurse leaders include Nurse Directors, Nursing Supervisors, Nurse Educators and Program Managers in the Department of Nursing. Recently, Program Manager for Informatics for Nursing/Patient Care Services Paula Wolski, MSN, RN-BC, received BWFH’s 2019 DAISY Nurse Leader Award.

Wolski was nominated by Nurse Educators Terry Roche, MSN, RN-BC, and Kathy McCarraher, MHA, BSN, RN, CPAN, ONC, for epitomizing BWFH’s Nursing Professional Practice Model.

In the nomination letter, Roche wrote:

She is always professional and supportive of safe, high-quality care. Paula is the only Epic Program Manager at BWFH and works in conjunction with Epic programmers, BWFH nurses, support staff, providers and every discipline that interacts with Epic. Because we share an office space, I often hear Paula say, “We have already developed that here at BWFH, I will send you the work we’ve done.” She works tirelessly to ensure patients are safe by identifying issues through personal interactions and through the Informatics Committee, and she is open to all suggestions for improvements to help make the right thing to do the easiest thing to do. During the Magnet site visit, Paula ensured plan of care and patient education was up to date, accurate and reflected the amazing care that staff provide to our patients. Kathy McCarraher and I both wanted to nominate Paula for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Paula has worked with Epic to create reports that help all disciplines caring for patients view changes in medications and results quickly and easily. Paula’s dedication to excellence in patient care shows through in all her actions.

For Wolski, being named the recipient of BWFH’s 2019 DAISY Nurse Leader Award was very meaningful. “I feel very honored and blessed to be recognized this way,” she says. “Having recently participated in the Magnet survey and having been present when the hospital received Magnet recognition is perhaps one of the highlights of my BWFH career. I am very proud to be part of this institution and grateful to see it thrive and grow.”

Wolski continues, “The impact of technology on staff and patients is of the utmost importance to me. The EHR and other technologies should reflect all the care that is given to a patient and be formatted in a way that is as user friendly as possible. My position affords me the ability to advocate for smart change to improve the everyday lives of our staff. This award reinforces to me that I am advocating in a positive and beneficial way.”
