Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members from all areas of the hospital who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Hospital Ambassador Dione Teixeira was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.
Teixeira was nominated for her I CARE Award by Hospital Ambassador Supervisor Gissel Pichardo. In her nomination letter, she wrote:
Dione has demonstrated solid teamwork and leadership since she has joined our Hospital Ambassador Program. I nominate Dione for an I CARE Award because she rises above and beyond her duties to deliver quality service to our patients. Today, I witnessed Dione assisting an elderly gentleman who came in with breathing difficulties. Dione identified that the patient needed help as soon as he entered the hospital. Dione approached the gentleman, asked him if he needed a wheelchair. Dione proceeded to grab a wheelchair for the gentleman and settled him in. In the midst of her taking care of the patient, I logged in to the computer to help check him in. Before approaching the Ambassador’s station, Dione put on gloves, sanitized them and continued to sanitize the gentleman’s hands also. Dione completed the check-in process with the gentleman and set him aside in a safe place while he awaited his support person. She verified that he was going to be assisted before returning to her workstation. The gentleman grabbed Dione’s hand and said “thank you” with the sweetest smile in his face. What stood out to me the most was how appreciative the gentleman was for Dione. I could see in the gentleman’s face that Dione’s actions made an impact. It is the behavior I love to see from the Hospital Ambassadors, and I am glad we have Dione here to give patients high-quality care and support to her team. Great job Dione!
