Surgical Services Coordinator receives PIE Award

Nominated in the category of Quality Treatment and Service, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Surgical Services Coordinator Elizabeth Keegan was recently awarded with a Partners in Excellence (PIE) Award.

Keegan was nominated for a PIE Award by Administrative Director of Surgical and Procedural Services Jeffrey Blackwell and Director of Perioperative Business Services Paul Riley. In their nomination, the two praised Keegan for her respect for individual team members and her customer focused approach to surgeons/surgeons’ offices, nurses, anesthesiologists and peri-operative support staff which in turn makes it easier for the care teams to provide timely, efficient and high-quality care to patients and families.

In their nomination, Blackwell and Riley wrote:

“Liz started working here 2016 in a newly designed role within the pre-procedural area. To say that we needed this position is an understatement, but it is not simply because we need another team member, rather it is because Liz has come into and transformed this role into something we could not have imagined. She is a high performing member of the team and has developed a great rapport with the OR Materials Management staff as well as with nurses, anesthesiologists and surgeons. This is not an easy feat but Liz has embraced the challenge and has been quite successful.

From an OR billing standpoint, Liz has done an outstanding job learning the Epic billing process and posts most charges within a day of the case, keeping our revenue projections aligned with budgeted projections. From a scheduling/project coordinator position, Liz has become the key BWFH scheduling contact for Central Scheduling, surgeon offices, out-of-OR (OOOR) procedures and nursing/anesthesia for resolution of daily issues.

These things aside, the real reason Liz is deserving of this award is her ability to see the larger picture in all situations. She has the ability to juggle the various strong personalities within the peri-operative world and find solutions that directly benefit our patients. Much of our surgical case volume success can be attributed to Liz's dedication behind the scenes to make it happen.”

For Keegan, receiving a PIE Award is a great honor. “I was quite humbled when I found out that I was selected to receive a PIE Award,” she says. “It was very kind of Paul and Jeff to nominate me and I am grateful for their continuous support. My work is only one part of a team of talented, dedicated people who are committed to providing excellent patient care. I am proud to be part of this team and share this recognition with them.”
