Rosado receives Bezanson Patient Safety Award

The Susan Bezanson Patient Safety Award is presented annually to a Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital employee who demonstrates superior levels of excellence and the same dedication to patient safety and quality assurance that Sue Bezanson exhibited. This year’s recipient, announced during a recent Daily Safety Huddle, is Psychiatry Program Manager Jessica Rosado, LMHC, MaCCS.

Bezanson was once described as an unrelenting spirit with a passion for both the great outdoors and her career in transfusion medicine. She was focused on patient safety and quality assurance, spearheading numerous patient safety initiatives at BWFH that helped shed light on the vital role of ancillary services in patient care prior to her death from breast cancer in 2008.

Like Bezanson, Rosado is fully dedicated to patient and staff safety. She was nominated for the award by Director of Behavioral Health Services Andrew Hennessy, MBA, who wrote:

Jess is exceptionally committed to the wellness of all our patients through her professionalism, engagement with numerous diversity committees and passion for service delivery of mental health treatment. Her leadership in tone-setting is beyond compare. Jess serves as the first contact for many of our patients. In that first encounter we meet the patient’s treatment refractory illness (which frequently creates significant psychosocial and logistical challenges), their vulnerability, a need to be held and the need of our department to introduce ourselves and how we work in a patient-centered approach. Jess’s insights, empathy and ability to move both productively and sensitively has made our Psychiatry Interventions program one of the most productive in Massachusetts.

For Rosado, receiving the Susan Bezanson Patient Safety Award is very meaningful. “Behavioral health is often fraught with challenges for patients to access necessary treatment, from stigma to confusing insurance systems to long waitlists and more,” she says. “I aim to continuously improve our services, reducing or eliminating any barriers so we can be part of the solution, not the problem. Safe and efficient operations are critical to providing optimal care. I care deeply about our patients and mission and am truly honored and appreciative of this recognition.”
