Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members from all areas of the hospital who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Respiratory Therapist Jean Mahoney was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.
Mahoney was nominated for her I CARE Award by Nurse Director for the ICU, Dialysis and Respiratory Estier Sayegh, MBA, BSN, RN, CCRN, PCCN, CNRN. In her nomination letter, Sayegh wrote:
We had an unexpected absence in the pulmonary function testing (PFT) lab for a week. Jean received a call on a Saturday that it was possible PFT appointments would need to be cancelled for the week if we couldn’t find coverage. Jean immediately started to rectify the issue. Jean stepped in by picking up all of the hours in the PFT lab to prevent patient appointment cancellations. Regardless of the many hours and days that she picked up to work in excess of her normal schedule, she put our patients’ needs and care above anything else. Jean put her own needs aside to provide patient-centered care. This is a perfect example of going above and beyond to provide high-quality of care for all patients. I can’t thank Jean enough for her dedication and commitment to our patients, the Respiratory Department and the organization. It is my honor and pleasure to have Jean on my team!
