Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members from all areas of the hospital who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Professional Development Manager for the PACU, 7 South, the Weiner Center for Preoperative Evaluation and Pre-Op Holding Kathy McCarraher, MHA, BSN, RN, CPAN, ONC, was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.
McCarraher was nominated for her I CARE Award by Emergency Department nurse Susan Flavin. In her nomination letter, she wrote:
Kathy was super helpful on a recent Saturday. She happened to come down to check to see if we needed anything in the Emergency Dept when the CMED phone went off about an incoming code. Kathy immediately asked what she could do to help without any hesitation. We did not have enough staff, Kathy jumped right into do the code cart to give medications and mixing IV drips. Kathy stayed until the patient was stable enough and ensured we had an extra code cart in case the patient took a turn again. Kathy checked in with the ED prior to heading home when her shift was over. We really appreciated her help!
