Pitts assumes role as Director of Facilities

Ed Pitts recently assumed the role of Director of Facilities at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. In his new role, he will oversee all operations related to the building, both inside and out.

Pitts comes to BWFH from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center – Milton where he served as Director of Facilities & Plant Operations. Prior to joining BIDMC – Milton, he served in a variety of roles at Tufts Medical Center, most recently as their Director of Facilities and Manager of Capital Construction prior to that. Pitts graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associates of Occupational Science degree from Johnson & Wales University in Providence early in his career, and received additional advanced training at Northeastern University, Boston University, Wentworth Institute of Technology and UMass-Lowell over the years. He has achieved the Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) designation from the American Hospital Association (AHA)/American Society of Healthcare Engineers, which is the top designation for Facilities Directors in the United States – certifying competence to manage all the complexities, codes and regulatory requirements associated with operating and maintaining a major healthcare facility. He is also one of the first Certified Life Safety Specialists in the United States, a designation sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association.

Here at BWFH, Pitts is first focusing his efforts on getting to know the building, his staff and members of the leadership team. He says he’s excited for the new challenge and already impressed with what he’s seen. “I was drawn to this particular role because of BWFH’s reputation. I’ve heard great things about this institution and I could see right away that it’s all true,” he says. “My first impression when I walked through the door was ‘this is an amazing campus.’ I could see the pride everyone takes in this facility right away.”

Pitts admits he has a difficult job, but one that he loves. “I do what’s best for patients, visitors and staff at all times to make sure BWFH is open, safe, comfortable and inviting,” he explains.

When he is not at work, Pitts enjoys spending time with his grown children, particularly hiking with them.
