OR welcomes new Nurse Director

Patrice Baril, MSN, RN, CNOR

Patrice Baril, MSN, RN, CNOR, recently assumed the role of Operating Room Nurse Director at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital.

Baril began her career as a nurse on a medical-surgical unit after graduating from Fitchburg State College with her bachelor’s degree. She later attended Rivier College where she earned her master’s degree. Over the years she has served in a variety of Nurse Manager rolls, including medical-surgical, operating room, perianesthesia, as well as outpatient clinic settings. Baril most recently served as Nurse Manager for Surgical Services at Lahey Medical Center Peabody.

Here at BWFH, Baril says she looks forward to returning to a more acute setting than the ambulatory setting at Lahey. “If there is a patient that needs a good nurse, it’s a patient having surgery,” she says. “They cannot speak for themselves so perioperative nurses are the advocates for those patients.”

Baril says she is also here to advocate for her staff. In her first few weeks on the job she is busying herself getting to know the staff and identifying areas where she can provide the tools needed to care for their patients. “There are many opportunities that the staff is already bringing to me,” she jokes.

When she is not at work, Baril enjoys reading and occupies herself with her new four-month-old Australian Cobberdog puppy. “I took a month off between jobs so she thought she had died and gone to heaven! She had me there all the time,” she says. “Now, when I get home, I can’t do anything without her jumping all over me.”
