Occupational therapist receives Compassionate Care Award

Four years ago, the Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital community tragically lost a 2 South inpatient psychiatry mental health worker who was known for his compassionate care. He was posthumously awarded the first Compassionate Care Award. Recently, Victoria Buckley, OTR, was presented with the Compassionate Care Award for 2019.

“This award was created to recognize our colleagues who demonstrate truly compassionate care,” says Director of Inpatient Psychology and Training and Compassionate Care Award Committee member Christopher AhnAllen, PhD. “The nominees are chosen by their peers because they communicate in a sensitive manner, listen carefully, provide emotional support and instill hope.”

Buckley was selected by a committee of her peers for the award because she is consistently mindful of her patients’ experience and is a strong advocate for their needs and recovery. Her nomination read in part, “She is mindful of various cultural values that may be impacting a patient’s experience or are important parts of their recovery. She demonstrates a consistent positive regard for patients and develops beautiful, supportive connections with almost all.”

At the ceremony, Buckley, along with her fellow nominees Leslie Tiffany, RN, Kerry Parsons, BSN, RN-BC, and Sharon Giardino, LICSW, was honored by her co-workers, Dr. AhnAllen and Chief of Psychiatry Dr. John Fromson.
