Nurse Director takes part in “Leveraging Leadership to Change the Narrative” panel discussion

6 North Nurse Director Suzelle Saint-Eloi, MS, RN, is a champion for nurses of color here at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, serving as both the co-chair of our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Council and as sponsor of our Nurses of Color employee resource group. Recently, she was invited by Mass General Hospital’s Association of MGH Multicultural Professionals (AMMP) to share her experience as a woman of color in her path to leadership during a panel discussion at their annual leadership series, this year titled “Leveraging Leadership to Change the Narrative.”

The virtual event featured several nurse directors from MGH in addition to Saint-Eloi and was moderated by AMMP Membership Chair Lisa Leung-Tat. The goal of the discussion was to explore the definition of “narrative,” how it’s changed over the last two years in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the fight against systemic racism and the divides in which we currently live and how we can leverage leadership to change the narrative.

“I am very honored to have been asked to participate in this discussion,” says Saint-Eloi. “I was asked to share how I am using my access to power to change the narrative. I spoke about our efforts here at BWFH with our Nurses of Color ERG and DE&I Council. I also shared my own personal passion for mentoring and bringing people along, something I think all people of color who have achieved a leadership role can do to help promote diversity and equity within our walls.”
