Construction Update: July 22 to August 2, 2024

Third-Floor Hillside Garage

Work continues on underground utilities and the curtain wall, which requires intermittent use of the Whitcomb Avenue entrance through August. In addition, work has begun on the interior of the garage, including mason work, drywall and elevator installation.

Inpatient Addition

Work is progressing for the inpatient addition with interior work and exterior wall installation ongoing. Staff and patients should expect intermittent disruptions to the loop road during this time. Construction activities will require the closure of the loop road on Saturday, July 27, and Saturday, August 10, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. During this time, the Whitcomb Avenue gate will be used to access parking behind the hospital.

Street Enhancements

Temporary stripping is complete on Centre Street and final signage has been installed. Repaving and final stripping will occur in the fall. The Blue Bike station is expected to be fully in place later in the summer.

Interior and Roof

Work is also underway inside the hospital and on the roof to accommodate the new inpatient addition. Please expect that there will be increased noise and possible disturbances within the hospital while construction activity continues. Individual departments within the hospital that will be directly impacted will be notified of any possible disruptions to operations ahead of time in order to properly prepare and mitigate impacts to patients, visitors and staff.
