Munroe receives Bezanson Patient Safety Award

The Susan Bezanson Patient Safety Award is presented annually to a Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital employee who demonstrates superior levels of excellence and the same dedication to patient safety and quality assurance that Sue Bezanson exhibited. This year’s recipient, announced during a recent Daily Safety Huddle, is Senior Program Manager for Emergency Preparedness Rob Munroe.

Bezanson was once described as an unrelenting spirit with a passion for both the great outdoors and her career in transfusion medicine. She was focused on patient safety and quality assurance, spearheading numerous patient safety initiatives at BWFH that helped shed light on the vital role of ancillary services in patient care prior to her death from breast cancer in 2008.

Like Bezanson, Munroe is fully dedicated to patient and staff safety. He was nominated for the award by the Emergency Preparedness leadership team. In his nomination, Sarah Tsay, Director of Emergency Preparedness, writes on behalf of the entire team, “Rob is the ultimate team player since coming to Emergency Preparedness and working at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He rises to every challenge and demands excellence from himself in every task. Through COVID-19, Rob has led us in efforts from planning section chief, to leading response coordination with the First Response and Assessment Team, to functioning as a liaison through various pathways and processes. He values and fosters relationship across BWFH and has focused on ensuring the highest level of safety for our patients, families and staff in every domain.”

For Munroe, receiving the Susan Bezanson Patient Safety Award is very meaningful. “I’m happy to have the opportunity to work and collaborate with teams at BWFH. It takes support from the whole community to ensure the highest level of safety for our patients and staff. I’m honored and looking forward to continuing to work with the great teams here at the hospital,” he says.
