Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members from all areas of the hospital who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Brigham and Women’s Primary Physicians’ Medical Assistant Janet Bakas was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award after receiving praise from a patient.
Bakas was nominated for her I CARE Award by the Office of the President at BWFH after the patient hand-delivered a letter detailing the exceptional care Bakas provides. In the letter, the patient wrote:
I am writing to compliment an employee, Janet Bakas, one of Dr. Maria Copello’s more experienced Medical Assistants, who provided excellent care for me during a medical crisis I experienced.
I had a serious concussion from a motor vehicle accident. Initially I did not seek medical treatment but my neurological symptoms grew worse during the night and I made an emergency appointment with Dr. Copello’s office early in the morning. Janet brought me into an exam room. After taking my vital signs and observing how ill I appeared, she immediately had a Physician Assistant assess my condition. It was felt that I should be immediately brought to the Emergency Department. Janet took the initiative to immediately transport me there.
I received excellent care at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital and I feel fortunate to have an outstanding primary care provider in Dr. Copello. Her clinical skills are exceptional and her ability to connect with me as a patient, always prepared with a positive attitude, is truly appreciated.
I worked in healthcare for over 20 years. I know Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital values its employees and recognizes exceptional care. I believe that Janet’s quick action and assistance helped in my recovery. If you could arrange for Janet to receive the credit she deserves and formal praise for her care and compassion in recognizing how sick I was and set in motion steps to my recovery, it would be most appreciated.
