Long time BWFH employee assumes clinical leader role

June Nichols, BSN, RN, recently assumed the role of clinical leader for the first floor Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). Nichols has worked at BWFH since 1987 and spent 11 years in the ICU. She then moved to work in the PACU, and has been there for the last 22 years. Nichols graduated with a degree in nursing from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing. She more recently received her Bachelor of Nursing from Western Governors University.

Her new role as clinical leader includes running the room, assigning nurses and patients, collaborating with clinical leaders, and managing staffing in both perioperative care and on the 6th floor.

Nichols is most excited about bringing about change with this new position. “It is an opportunity to improve the unit and collaborate with different people in the hospital,” she says. She cares deeply about the work she does, even though there are many hectic and busy days. “I am as passionate now as the day I became a nurse,” she says. “My favorite part is watching the progression of people going home and having an impact on recovery.”

In her free time, Nichols enjoys traveling and riding motorcycles with her husband, as well as spending time with her two sons.
