I CARE recipient’s warmth and compassion creates positive environment within COVID-19 vaccination clinic 

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members who go above and beyond their normal job responsibility to make BWFH a welcoming place to work and receive care. Occupational Health Services Manager Dinah McDonald, MS, ANP-BC, COHN-S/CM, was recently nominated for an I CARE Award submitted by Lori Barney, a college student who is serving as one of BWFH’s Ambassadors. “I am truly honored and humbled to receive the I CARE Award and believe that this recognition reflects the hard work of our entire COVID Vaccination Team,” says McDonald.

In her nomination, Barney wrote:

I have had the pleasure of watching Dinah since the start of the COVID vaccination clinic go above and beyond. She always greets every employee who comes by name. She patiently checks in with employees who have yet to schedule their vaccine, gently encouraging them and answering all their questions. She is the happiest person in the room when someone decides to get vaccinated that day. For people who are nervous or scared she will stay with them for their entire visit from the beginning until the end to make sure they are comfortable and at ease. She makes the clinic a warm and welcoming place for the staff and all the employees receiving the vaccine.

“Our entire team has bonded together to reach out and educate, vaccinate and protect our health care heroes at BWFH from the COVID pandemic,” continues McDonald. “What really touched me the most was that Lori and the rest of our college interns saw the true face of our close-knit BWFH staff community that has worked tirelessly to keep our patients, staff and our collective families safe from COVID. What sets BWFH apart from other hospitals is the mutual respect, care and concern that we have for one another. This is the most meaningful work that I have ever been a part of in my career and I am so proud to be a part of the BWFH family and hope our college interns are too.”
