Groundskeeper receives I CARE Award

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members from all areas of the hospital who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Groundskeeper Danny O’Shea was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award after he went out of his way to help a patient in need.

O’Shea was nominated for his I CARE Award by Security Operations Manager Stewart Prue, who wrote in his nomination letter:

While I was walking through the garage, Danny drove up to me and stated that he observed a young lady that looked extremely upset and crying. He told me that he was concerned for her wellbeing. I proceeded to the 4th floor of the garage where I located the individual in question. She was extremely distraught and after briefly speaking with her I was also immediately concerned for her safety. I was able to talk her into going to the ED for evaluation after a while. I learned once at the ED waiting room that her mother had brought her in hours earlier, but she ended up leaving before the full check in process happened. She ended up getting an inpatient bed at another facility sometime later. If Danny had not stopped to tell me about his concern for this person he briefly ran into, any number of bad outcomes probably could have happened. By letting me know about her I was able to locate her and get her the help she needed.

Do you know a BWFH employee who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate BWFH’s I CARE Standards? To nominate a fellow colleague for an I CARE Award, please visit BWFHconnect. A team of colleagues will personally recognize the employee by presenting them with balloons, a thank you card and a gift certificate redeemable in the cafeteria or Atrium Cafe.
