Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members from all areas of the hospital who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Social worker Jacqueline Garza, LICSW, MEd, was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.
Garza was nominated for her I CARE Award by Emergency Department staff nurse Sonia Amlaw, BSN, RN. In her nomination letter, Amlaw wrote:
Jackie always goes above and beyond for her patients/clients. One example that really touched me happened recently. I had a patient who was being discharged to a detox program. He had an infection that required him to take antibiotics. The program requires patients to have all medication with them at the time of admission. This patient would not be able to get his prescription filled and then go to program. Jackie took it upon herself to pick up this patient’s prescription at an outside pharmacy. This is lovely enough and is deserving of an award, but her car was at an offsite parking lot. She took the shuttle to her car, drove to the pharmacy and then drove here to give the patient his antibiotics. All this was done prior to the patient’s discharge.
Do you know a BWFH employee who has gone above and beyond to demonstrate BWFH’s I CARE Standards? To nominate a fellow colleague for an I CARE Award, please visit BWFHconnect. A team of colleagues will personally recognize the employee by presenting them with balloons, a thank you card and a gift certificate redeemable in the cafeteria or Atrium Café.
