Fresh Truck Mobile Market now making weekly stops in Roslindale

The Fresh Truck Mobile Market is now making weekly stops at Washington Beech in Roslindale every Tuesday from 4:30 to 6:30 pm. The Fresh Truck carries fresh fruits, vegetables and pantry staples, all at an affordable price. Plus, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Outpatient and Community Liaison Dietitian Allie Lang, RD, LDN, is aboard the truck, offering nutrition advice, shopping tips and ideas for healthy recipes to Roslindale community members as part of Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness Department’s ongoing outreach work.

Over the past year, BWFH and the Fresh Truck have worked together to establish a stop in Hyde Park and now in Roslindale. “This partnership has been an incredibly rewarding experience for me,” says Lang. “Every week I chat with regulars and new customers that are excited about providing healthy food for their families. These community members, who may not have time to stop in for a formal nutrition visit, receive practical advice in a setting that is convenient for them. I am so excited to expand to Roslindale. The program has had such an obvious benefit to the community of Hyde Park and I know it can do the same in Roslindale.”

The Fresh Truck made its first stop in Roslindale at the Washington Beech Apartments on May 8. The premier event, which also included free cholesterol screenings by BWFH’s Community Health and Wellness Assistant Katie Plante, proved to be a great success. Washington Beech Apartments’ Resident Service Coordinator Bernadette Murphy, MSW, said, “Creating an environment where residents can shop for healthy foods, talk with a nutritionist about healthy meals and snacks, pick up a cook book and a delicious snack and have three medical check-ups at a mini-clinic made for a fun, informative afternoon!”

It was such as success, BWFH’s Community Health and Wellness Department has committed to joining Lang once a month at a Roslindale and Hyde Park Fresh Truck stop to offer health-related advice and services.
