Department of Psychiatry welcomes new attending physician

Kristin Budde, MD, recently joined Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital as an attending physician on the inpatient psychiatry unit.

Dr. Budde earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Michigan and her Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio. She completed her residency in Psychiatry at Yale University where she was also Chief Resident for Diversity. She then became an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, Yale University Department of Psychiatry, and an Attending Psychiatrist, Psychiatric Emergency Services, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Most recently, she has been Acting Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, University of Washington Department of Psychiatry, and an Attending Psychiatrist, Inpatient Psychiatry and Psychiatric Emergency Services, at Harborview Hospital, Seattle. Dr. Budde is board certified in Psychiatry.

In addition to her interests in inpatient and emergency psychiatry, Dr. Budde has leadership roles in women in medicine, diversity and teaching.

Dr. Budde says she is excited for her new role at BWFH. “The inpatient psychiatry unit here offers an ideal blend of acute psychiatry, academic practice and teaching, and a superb group of coworkers,” she says. “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining the team, and so looking forward to getting to know everyone.”

When she is not at work, Dr. Budde enjoys keeping her mind and body active. “I like traveling (pre-COVID, anyway), running, hiking, pastries, espresso, wine, literature from before 1620 or after 1900 (with the exception of Melville), learning to cook, storytelling and spacetime,” she says of her many interests.
