Department of Nursing welcomes new Professional Development Manager

Tedi Hughes, MSN, RN, PMHCNS-BC

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Department of Nursing Professional Development recently welcomed Tedi Hughes, MSN, RN, PMHCNS-BC, as Nursing Professional Development Manager.

Hughes began her career as a nurse, something she says was a lifelong goal, by completing a diploma program in New York City. After moving to the Boston area, she pursued her BSN and MSN in nursing at Northeastern University. She is also board-certified as a psychiatric clinic nurse specialist.

Throughout her career, Hughes has held many leadership roles, including Nurse Manager and Nurse Director. But in the last few years she has turned her attention to nursing education. She most recently held the position of Nurse Educator for the Department of Psychiatry at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital. She also teaches at Northeastern. “At this point in my career,” she says, “my focus is on giving back.”

She says she is thrilled to join the Nursing Professional Development group here at BWFH. “What inspired me to pursue this position was the overall reputation of the hospital along with its support and commitment to the development of all nurses at every level,” she says.

As Nursing Professional Development Manager, Hughes will be involved in a wide range of projects. “My job is to lead opportunities for staff development,” she explains. “It’s about working with teams and inspiring others.”

When she is not at work, Hughes enjoys exploring her creative side through sewing and fashion. She jokes, “I went to fashion school instead of going for a PhD in nursing.”
