Department of Nursing hosts Evening of Inquiry 

The Department of Nursing at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital recently played host to the Greater Boston Chapter (GBC) of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Evening of Inquiry. During the evening celebration, critical care nurses from around the Boston area shared scholarly work with colleagues, including several from BWFH.

ICU Clinical Leader Ellen McCarthy, DNP, MSN, RN, CCRN, and Nursing Professional Development Manager Meigan Amaral, MSN, RN, CCRN, shared a poster titled “Nurse Driven Palliative Care Consults in the ICU” and Nursing Professional Development Manager Patricia Rabbett, MSN, RN, CCRN-K, shared a poster titled “Mini Mock Codes: Beginnings Matter.”

“As a GBC board member, the Evening of Inquiry is one of my favorite events,” says McCarthy. “I enjoy hearing about the work our peers are involved in to advance the nursing profession and improve patient outcomes. It was nice to see the presenters focus on the critical care nurse and the stressors they face.”

Attendees from other organizations expressed similar sentiments when asked about the evening. A nurse from Boston Medical Center who presented a poster at the event said of the evening, “It was an incredible experience, especially as a novice presenter. It was a fantastic event to disseminate research that will help advance nursing practice.”

Executive Director of Nursing Professional Development, Practice and Innovation Colleen West, DNP, MBA, RN, CPHQ, who was in attendance and helped make the evening a possibility, reflected on the experience. “Dissemination of nurses’ scholarly work is so important for our profession,” she says. “We were delighted to support the GBC Evening of Inquiry and hope we can continue to do so in the years ahead.”
