Community Health and Wellness Department takes part in Healthy Kids Day

Healthy Kids Day is a national event at YMCAs all over the country focused on promoting healthy habits in children. On April 21, Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness Assistant Katie Plante and Outpatient and Community Liaison Dietitian Allie Lang, RD, LDN, both took part in the festivities at the Parkway YMCA and the Thomas M. Menino YMCA respectively.

“Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness Department has been part of Healthy Kids Day at the Parkway YMCA for many years. It is part of our long-term collaborative partnership and commitment to the community,” says Director of Community Health and Wellness Tracy Sylven. “This year we were thrilled to also be able take part in the events happening at the Thomas M. Menino YMCA.”

At the Parkway YMCA, Plante offered a healthy recipe tasting of no bake energy bites and did fruit and vegetable trivia with the kids for a prize. “The kids loved trying the sample and then getting to talk about their favorite fruits and vegetables. It was a fun day and great to have them be so excited about healthy foods,” she says.

Lang was on hand at the Thomas M. Menino YMCA to help promote good nutrition through a fun game and hand out samples of a healthy smoothie. “The day is focused on activities that get kids moving like obstacle courses and bouncy houses,” says Lang. “The kids definitely appreciated a healthy snack after all that activity!”
