Chief of Critical Care and Respiratory Medical Director receives I CARE Award

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members from all areas of the hospital who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Chief of Critical Care and Respiratory Medical Director Robert Tarpy, MD, was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.

Dr. Tarpy was nominated for his I CARE Award by the ICU’s Paulina Vitello, RN. In her nomination letter, Vitello wrote:

We recently had a patient in our ICU requiring intubation. Upon being extubated, he became more and more anxious, and eventually got to the point where he was unwilling to do anything as he was scared he would end up back on the ventilator. Knowing this, Dr. Tarpy stayed well past his usual time in order to work with the patient and get him in a comfortable and safe spot. He went out of his way to get him a new inhaler from pharmacy, coached the patient on how to breathe in order to control his anxiety, physically assisted the patient into a comfortable position in the bed and waited until the patient was settled in for the night before leaving. We all know how busy Dr. Tarpy is here at BWFH, and this is just one of the many ways he continues to show how much he genuinely cares for his patients on daily bases.
