Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s I CARE Award recognizes staff members from all areas of the hospital who go above and beyond their regular job responsibilities to make BWFH a great place to work and receive care. Central Sterile Supervisor Jose Zayas was a recent recipient of an I CARE Award.
Zayas was nominated for his I CARE Award by Operating Room Nurse Director Patrice Baril, MSN, RN, CNOR. In her nomination letter, Baril wrote:
During a crisis in sterile processing when the manager was away, Jose Zayas as the day shift supervisor had to manage resterilizing kits, sending multiple trays to BWH to be reprocessed, accompanying nursing leadership to speak with affected patients when their surgeries were canceled and manage the activities of the department as the senior leader. During this crisis, Jose demonstrated incredible foresight in determining and prioritizing needs for upcoming patients. Additionally, Jose managed to perform with an unbelievably professional and calm demeanor, treating everyone he encountered with respect, patience and kindness. He is deserving of every possible recognition!
