Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital is pleased to welcome Stacey Burns, CPHQ, to the role of Risk Manager. She joins Director of Risk Management Beth Uhl-Israel, MBA, CPHRM, CPHQ, and fellow Risk Manager Catherine Pepe-DeFrancesco, Esq., to round out the Risk Management team.
Burns, a graduate of Syracuse University, most recently served as Director of Quality Improvement, Risk Management and Compliance at Pembroke Hospital, a position she held for more than a decade. After taking some time away from work to travel with her family, Burns says she is excited to join the BWFH family. “I had heard a lot about the culture and operations here at BWFH and I was really impressed,” she says. “After the interview process, I had a really positive feeling about the hospital.”
In her new role as Risk Manager, Burns will be responsible for managing potential risks and liabilities within the hospital. She will work closely with hospital staff to assess potential risks from several sources, including concerns regarding the delivery of care, the physical environment and allegations of abuse/violence or negligence. She will collect data, perform analyses within the Equity-Informed High Reliability framework and participate in recommendations to address system problems or improvements needed in hospital procedures. “This work is ever-changing. It’s never the same day twice,” she says. “But the ultimate goal is to have an impact on the quality of care we provide.”
Outside of work, she enjoys skiing, going to the beach and spending time with her family and six-year-old golden retriever. “My kids are grown now so I spend time with them whenever I can,” Burns says.
