This May, more than 1,000 surgical cases were performed at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital. This is the first month in the history of the hospital that more than 1,000 surgical cases have been performed in one month. It is a feat made possible by the continued hard work of staff and their dedication to quality of care and the patient experience.
To celebrate, staff from the Weiner Center for Preoperative Evaluation, Pre-Op Holding, Intra-Op, the PACU, Anesthesia, the Surgical Teams, CPD and the OR Business Office were treated to a “1,000+” cake. Staff from Pathology, 7 South, 7 North and Rehabilitation Services were also thanked for their efforts with cakes.
At the celebratory gathering in the OR, Dr. Pardon Kenney, Chief of Surgery at BWFH, took the opportunity to reflect on how far the hospital has come. As he invited Cora McHugh, RN, who just received her 40-year Service Award, to cut the cake, Dr. Kenney said, “She and I, and several others of you, can remember the days back in the early ‘90s when a 400-case month was a big deal and we only had six ORs. Now we’re at 16 ORs and 1,000 cases. What can I say? It’s been a long journey to get to this point and I want to thank all of you for all the hard work. Every one of you works so hard to make this happen. It’s really quite the accomplishment.”
Susan Dempsey, Vice President of Clinical Services, also addressed the staff. “Thank you to everyone for all of your effort,” she said. “And also thanks to the surgeons, because they trust us to bring their patients here and we’re grateful for that.”
