BWFH makes waves at SunSplash

SunSplash is an annual event at the Italian Home for Children which caps off the summer with a day of fun. After missing last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it returned this year (in modified fashion) to the delight of the children and staff of the Italian Home. The day’s activities included water slides, a dunk tank, a cookout, ice cream, crafts and more.

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, a neighbor and supporter of the Italian Home, helped to make the day special for the children by donating hot dogs and hamburgers for the cookout. The hospital also gave the gift of time. “Our Emerging Leaders Committee believes strongly in making an impact in our community,” says Community Health Program Coordinator and Emerging Leaders Committee Chair Katie Plante. “We were very happy to volunteer our time to help set up for the event and run some of the activities.”

The day was particularly warm and sunny meaning the children were happy to cool off on the water slides. “We spent most of the day just hosing down the slide and the kids,” says Plante. “And they loved every minute of it. Seeing how happy they were to play in the water made it really rewarding.”
