BWFH announces campus expansion plans

Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital has been looking to expand the services it is able to provide to the community right here on our campus. Over the last several weeks, President David O. McCready, MBA, MPH, met with many state and local leaders, as well as several community organizations, to share preliminary details and garner support for the proposed project.

On Friday, June 14, the hospital filed its official letter of intent with the City of Boston that will allow BWFH to continue to explore the feasibility of the expansion project.

Pending project funding from the Brigham Health and Partners HealthCare boards over the summer, the $250 million proposed expansion project will include a five-story inpatient addition located to the left of the main entrance to the hospital that will include 78 new inpatient beds, as well as clinical support and ambulatory space.

Other improvements planned as part of this expansion project include:

  • The replacement of the existing Hillside Garage, built in 1973, with a new garage constructed on the existing third floor surface lot
  • A new driveway into the replacement garage from Allandale Street to help improve access to the campus and address traffic circulation
  • Proposing three new levels on the Atrium Parking Garage to help address patient parking needs

Over the coming months building planners and surveyors will be on campus looking at traffic flow and collecting other data needed to continue the project. If all goes well, construction will begin in late 2020.
