Advanced practice providers take on new roles at BWFH

At Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, advanced practice providers (APPs) can be found on every unit in nearly every discipline playing an integral role in our multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

Recently, three APPs have taken on new roles.

Megan Flicker, MSN, RN, AGPCNP-BC, ACHPN, comes from BWFH VNACare Network and Hospice where she served as their Palliative and Hospice Nurse Practitioner. She joins BWFH as Palliative Care Consult NP. In this role, she will work closely with Dr. John Halporn, MD, to complete palliative care consults throughout the hospital and will be a resource for all staff. She will help facilitate family meetings, serious illness and goals of care conversations. “I am most looking forward to learning how to help patients in the hospital and navigate end of life,” she says of her new role.

Jessica Lara MSN, RN, FNP-BC, a familiar face at BWFH, joined the Faulkner Advanced Clinician Team (FACT) service in 2016. In 2020, she transitioned and became the first APP on the inpatient cardiology co-management service and was instrumental in its success. She was recently named BWFH’s first Chief Cardiology APP. In this role, she will lead, supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the APPs on the inpatient cardiology service. She will also be responsible for collaborating with attending physicians in the medical management of patients assigned to the service and work as part of the integrated team which includes residents, medical students and attendings. “I look forward to continuing to grow the cardiology presence at BWFH!” she says. “I’d also like to continue to build on relationships with cardiovascular medicine at BWH that allow ongoing teaching opportunities for our APPs.”

Rebecca Mogensen, MSN, RN, ACNP-BC, also a familiar face at BWFH, has been a member of the FACT service since 2016. She has recently been promoted to Associate Chief APP for FACT. In her new role, Mogensen will lead, supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the APPs in conjunction with the Chief Medicine APP, FACT Medical Director and the Associate Chief of Medicine and administrative leadership. She will also be responsible for collaborating with attending physicians in the medical management of patients assigned to the service and work as part of the integrated team which includes residents, medical students and attendings. “I am most excited to continue to be a part of our growing FACT service, collaborating with my APP and physician colleagues along with hospital leadership as Associate Chief and continuing as a dyad leader on 6 North,” she says. “It is really an exciting time to think about hospital medicine, the FACT service and what it will look like in the upcoming years, especially with the new building! I am looking forward to the challenges and continuing to grow professionally, to meet the demands of our community and hospital.”
