Team Pink Ribbon Runners to Run 2021 B.A.A. 10K in Support of Lymphedema Patient Care Fund

Between June 25 and 27, runners anywhere in the world can join the Virtual B.A.A. 10K road race, presented by Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Among the teams participating in this year’s B.A.A. 10K is Team Pink Ribbon Runners, comprised of Brigham Health staff on the breast and plastic surgery teams, many of whom work right here at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital!

Team Captain Emily Lafleur, P-AC, from the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at BWFH, plastic and reconstructive surgeon Shailesh Agarwal, MD, Division Chief of Breast Surgery and Medical Director of Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Breast Center Laura Dominici, MD, FACS, Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery at Brigham Health and Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center Tari King, MD, FACS, Michele McCullough, RN, from the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at BWFH, breast cancer surgeon Elizabeth Mittendorf, MD, PhD, breast cancer surgeon Faina Nakhlis, MD, breast cancer surgeon Olga Kantor, MD, and Jared Wydysh, PT, DPT, CSCS, from BWFH’s Rehabilitation Services, will join their teammates to raise funds to support the Lymphedema Patient Care Fund.

One Hundred percent of funds raised will go directly to provide for special garments to lymphedema patients that cannot afford them on their own and are not covered by their insurance. This includes patients with upper extremity/breast lymphedema, lower extremity lymphedema, genital lymphedema and head and neck lymphedema.

“I love to run and love fundraising for the Brigham,” says Lafleur. “Over the years I’ve done numerous fundraising races for the Brigham, including the B.A.A. 5K as well as the Boston Marathon—which I am doing again this year to support the Stepping Strong Foundation. But I especially love fundraising for the B.A.A. 10K, which is why I take ownership as a captain. The funds raised directly benefit our faculty and patients.”

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s race will look a little different than years past. “We are all training separately, but hope to run the virtual race together,” says Lafleur. “Last year we all met up at Jamaica Pond and were able to run together, but at our own pace. There was water and snacks provided, and my two young nephews provided vocal support with the cow bells!”
