Summer Jobs Program student named PIC Achiever

The Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) is a nonprofit organization that strengthens Boston’s communities and its workforce by connecting youth and adults with education and employment opportunities that align with the needs of area employers. In the summer of 2017, through PIC’s partnership with Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, TechBoston Academy student Naicka Pierre had the opportunity to work at the hospital in Transport. She was also recently named a 2017 PIC Achiever.

Pierre accepted her 2017 PIC Achiever award at the PIC 2017 Annual Meeting where PIC Board Chair and Federal Reserve Bank First Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Kenneth Montgomery presented major updates from the PIC and Superintendent of Boston Public Schools Tommy Chang discussed his vision and strategy to more closely link the classroom to the workplace for Boston Public Schools students.

Pierre emigrated from Haiti to the United States at the age of four. As a student at TechBoston Academy she has taken advantage PIC’s opportunities. During her sophomore year, she participated in career readiness workshops that lead to a summer job as a childcare assistant at Little Leaders Prep School. Her success during that internship allowed her to continue working there during her junior year of high school. This summer, as a rising senior, she impressed the staff in Transport at BWFH so much so that she was hired on per diem for her senior year as she looks to pursue a career in healthcare.

She says of being named a PIC Achiever, “The award to me really means a lot because it shows my hard work and my dedication to having a successful future.”
