“My staff and our patients have long expressed the need for a dedicated patient restroom within Pre-Op Holding,” says Director of Perioperative Services Kathleen Merrigan, MSN, RN. “Now that the new restroom is open, patients are much happier and life is a lot easier for staff.”
Providing a close bathroom helps calm patients’ anxieties as they wait to go into the OR. The proximity of the new bathroom helps maintain patient privacy and provides a feeling of comfort and being cared for.
At the grand opening celebration, which featured balloons, a ribbon cutting and a sparkling cider toast, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer Judy Hayes, MSN, RN, NEA-BC, Associate Chief Nurse of Ambulatory and Perioperative Services Kitty Rafferty, MS, RN, NEA-BC, and Administrative Director of Surgical Services Jeffrey Blackwell joined Merrigan and her staff to celebrate the milestone.
“It has truly been a team effort to see this project through to completion,” says Merrigan. “It was wonderful to see everyone so thrilled with the result.”
