Board-certified and fellowship-trained urologist Michael O’Leary, MD, MPH, who leads the medical team in the Men’s Health Clinic at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, has been elected president of the Boston Athletic Association(B.A.A.) by the B.A.A. Board of Governors.
Dr. O’Leary is the 24th president of the association. He has been a member of the B.A.A. since 1989, and he has held a position on the Board of Governors for the last 12 years. Dr. O’Leary was elected for the five-year term at the recent B.A.A. Annual Meeting. He says, “I grew up in Framingham along the marathon route, and was also at the finish line in 2013. This organization means the world to me, as it does to so many of us.”
In addition to his own ties to the B.A.A., Dr. O’Leary’s father was a lifelong B.A.A. member and the personal physician of former B.A.A. president and Boston sports leader Walter Brown. Dr. O’Leary ran cross country and track at Harvard University, where he graduated with honors.
The B.A.A., established in 1887, is a nonprofit organization with a mission of promoting a healthy lifestyle through sports, especially running, and conducts the annual Boston Marathon. The 122nd Boston Marathon will be held on Monday, April 16, 2018, with an expected field size of 30,000 participants.
