Hospitalist Receives Robert A. Lebow Advocacy Award

The Robert A. Lebow Advocacy Award, given annually since 2019 by the American College of Physicians (ACP), recognizes members’ work in support of their chapter’s Health and Public Policy Committee and their advocacy initiatives. Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital Hospitalist and member of the Massachusetts ACP chapter Shela Sridhar, MD, MPH, was recently announced as a recipient of the honor.

“ACP has been a wonderful opportunity for me to advocate for our patients,” says Dr. Sridhar of her involvement with the organization. “The patient stories we all see daily are brought to legislators to fight for more access to high-quality and more equitable healthcare. It is a wonderful correlate to the daily clinical care we provide and an incredibly meaningful way to use our experience and create systems change at a policy level. I am so grateful for the chance to serve my patients in this way.”

The ACP is a diverse community of internal medicine specialists and subspecialists united by a commitment to excellence. Internists apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the diagnosis, treatment and compassionate care of adults across the spectrum from health to complex illness. With 163,000 members in countries across the globe, ACP is the largest medical-specialty society in the world. ACP and its physician members lead the profession in education, standard-setting and the sharing of knowledge to advance the science and practice of internal medicine.

One of the goals of the American College of Physicians is to “recognize excellence and distinguished contributions to internal medicine.” As a way of achieving this goal, the ACP offers 22 national awards and a number of Masterships each year.
