Delegates from Jiangsu Province Hospital, which is part of a large health system in China, recently visited Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital as part of an exploratory mission. The group is hoping to establish a collaboration with Brigham Health in several areas, including clinical and research programs and training. They also hope to hold a joint conference in China in the future.
During the day at BWFH, President Michael Gustafson, MD, MBA, and Chief Medical Officer Peggy Duggan, MD, presented an overview of the history of BWFH and our integration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital. “With the help of our translator from BWH’s International Office, we talked about the growth of clinical programs on this campus and discussed some macro-population health issues that are common between China and the United States,” says Dr. Duggan. “The group was very engaged and seemed to be impressed with the work that’s being done throughout Brigham Health.”
Later, the group toured the hospital, visiting the inpatient orthopaedics unit on 7 South and Brigham and Women’s Orthopaedic Center and Brigham and Women’s Comprehensive Spine Center on 5 South. Also on the fifth floor, they saw the Sleep Testing Center, the Outpatient Infusion Center, the Intensive Care Unit and Brigham and Women’s Sleep Medicine and Endocrinology Center. They then traveled to the second floor where they saw Psychiatry and the Addiction Recovery Program, Rehabilitation Services and the otolaryngology and plastic surgery suites before going downstairs to the Emergency Department and Taiclet Family Center.
The day concluded with a lunch in the Mary Ann Tynan Conference Center hosted by Dr. Gustafson and Dr. Duggan. “Overall, I think it was a very productive day for both our visitors from China and for us,” says Dr. Duggan. “I hope this is just the beginning of a long working relationship with our colleagues at Jiangsu Province Hospital.”
