Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital recently earned a five-star rating from Hospital Compare, which was created through the efforts of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, to inform consumers about the quality of care at over 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals across the country. Patients use Hospital Compare to find hospitals and compare the quality of their care.
Executive Director of Patient Safety, Quality, Risk, Infection Control, CDI and Clinical Compliance Christi Clark Barney, MSN, RN, says she’s thrilled with BWFH’s rating. “We know that patients have a choice when it comes to where they receive their healthcare. The information on Hospital Compare helps our patients make those decisions.”
Hospital Compare was created through the efforts of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), in collaboration with organizations representing consumers, hospitals, doctors, employers, accrediting organizations and other federal agencies. The Hospital Compare overall rating summarizes up to 57 quality measures shown on Hospital Compare into a single star rating, making it easier to compare hospitals side by side.
“The star rating system is one method that the federal government is using to capture quality outcomes and patient safety at hospitals,” explains Barney. “The hard work of the staff in keeping our patients safe and delivering excellent care is reflected in this latest tally of the quality and safety data.”
Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital is one of just seven hospitals in Massachusetts to achieve a five-star rating.
