Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Department of Nursing recently honored 7 North’s Ma Renee Ibardaloza, RN, with a DAISY Award.
Ibardaloza was nominated by a grateful patient. In their nomination letter, the patient wrote:
Renee was my night nurse. I think that she is compassionate, empathetic to her patients and passionate about her job. She went out of her way to make sure my needs were met. She is a great listener and a strong advocate. Even when she realized she may get a “no” from the doctor, she still took the time to explain why it was important to me and advocated on my behalf. She helped calm my nerves by saying, “We will still figure it out either way.” She helped teach me about my fluid restriction and ways I could be successful in my care. She is cheery, coming in every time with a smile on her face. They can give me medication to treat my illness but seeing her smile made me feel like I would have a better night. She was funny—and eased my anxiety. Very professional. She knew how to establish boundaries but still be lighthearted. I was lucky to have her as an experienced nurse taking care of me. I have been in the hospital many times and I have worked with a lot of nurses. Renee is great—I hope you recognize her with the DAISY Award.
Ibardaloza was presented with her DAISY Award by members of nursing leadership, the Nursing Professional Recognition and Advancement Committee and her supportive co-workers during National Nurses Week.
She says it is an honor to be a DAISY Award recipient. “It’s a humbling experience and it feels great to be recognized. I share this award with my fellow nurses in celebration of Nurses Week,” she says.
The DAISY Award, established by the DAISY Foundation, is named in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at the age of 33 from Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was inspired by the care that Patrick received and established this unique program to recognize and thank the nurses nationwide who make a profound difference in the lives of their patients and families.
