The DAISY Nurse Leader Award annually recognizes the incredible work that nurse leaders do every day. At Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital nurse leaders include Nurse Directors, Nursing Supervisors, Nurse Educators and Program Managers in the Department of Nursing. Recently, 6 North Nurse Director Suzelle Saint-Eloi, MS, RN, received BWFH’s 2017 DAISY Nurse Leader Award.
Saint-Eloi was nominated by 6 South staff nurse Lindsey McDermott, BSN, RN, on behalf of the entire 6 South Unit Based Council for stepping in to fill the role of Interim Nurse Director on that unit after the retirement of Kathy Codair, MS, RN.
In her nomination, McDermott wrote, “Throughout this time, Suzelle has been an excellent support and resource to our unit. She has allowed us to maintain our 6 South unit culture in this time of transition while being visible and available to address clinical needs. Suzelle attends all of our RRTs (and there have been quite a few), meets with our Chief Medical Resident and checks on the floor numerous times a day to make sure we are operating smoothly. We know that it is not an easy task to take on a large unit for six weeks (during the summer and during the start of brand new doctors), but Suzelle has shown us a positive, upbeat attitude and helping hand to pitch in when needed. Recently, she recruited one of her own 6 North PCAs to fill a 7 to 11 am hole at the last minute to stay for our unit. Barbara was a great addition for the day and when she left with a bouquet of roses, Suzelle joked that 6 South shouldn’t get any ideas! We appreciate all of the hard work that Suzelle has put into letting us maintain our unit that we care for.”
For Saint-Eloi, being named the recipient of BWFH’s 2017 DAISY Nurse Leader Award was very meaningful. “It was truly an honor and a great experience supporting 6 South as the Interim Nurse Director. It was a significant transition for them, so it was important to work collaboratively with the Clinical Leaders (Tracy Lane, BSN, RN-BC, and Jeanne Hutchins, BSN, RN, CCRN), always supporting them and being visible,” she said. “The 6 South team is solid, and I am truly honored and humbled to be recognized and to have received this prestigious award.”
