2019 Max and Glenna Bermann Radiology Employee of the Year recipient announced

The Max and Glenna Bermann Radiology Employee of the Year Award is given annually to one individual in the Radiology Department who best exemplifies the qualities of professionalism, patient-centeredness, teamwork, selflessness and self-initiative that are so important to achieving optimal patient care. This year’s recipient is Radiology Support Services Patient Care Coordinator Maura Brown.

Brown was nominated by Radiology Support Services Supervisor Roseanne Howell and Radiology Project Coordinator Sabrina Klein.

In their nomination letter, Howell and Klein describe Brown’s dedication to the department and its patients:

Maura has been a valuable member of the Department of Radiology for nearly 10 years. She is a shining example of dedication, professionalism, teamwork and patient-centered care. Maura is the first person to help a co-worker or be there when any area of Support Services needs her to be. On any given day, she can be found at her desk in the Sagoff Center, in the scheduling office, at the front desk on the second floor of Belkin House, at the front desk in the main department or serving as the patient coordinator in the Sagoff Center. She has become a regular ’go-to’ resource for most random questions, especially when it comes to EPIC. Maura is known across the department as the ultimate team player. It came as no surprise when she stepped-up to represent Support Services and Mammography on the Employee Engagement Committee.

Maura has always gone above and beyond for patients, and as the Mammography Coordinator, has taken ownership of ensuring our patients get their follow-ups and the care they need. She has gone as far as making multiple calls to offices to be sure a patient would have no issues or delay when coming for their follow-up. We think if you ask her manager, he will tell you that she never misses a beat when it comes to our patients and their needs. We are sure the radiologists in Mammography would agree what an asset Maura is to our department and our patients. She is a true patient advocate and her high level of care shows daily. Her involvement in the Patient Satisfaction Task Force takes her level of devotion to patient care that much farther. Her input to that group’s work has been very beneficial and truly shows her versatility and how much she has to offer.

Maura is a true self-starter. Nothing shows this more than when she knows Support Services will be short-staffed and takes it upon herself to reach out to Roseanne and ask, “Where do you need me?” No one is as quick to change their entire day to meet the needs of our department than Maura Brown. Our department is lucky to have her and it is just one more way she exemplifies the ideals of the Bermann Award.

Howell read the letter during a special luncheon as part of the Department’s National Radiologic Technology Week celebrations alongside Chief of Radiology Dylan C. Kwait, MD, and Director of Radiology Brian McIntosh, BS, RT(R) CRA.

Upon learning she had received this year’s Max and Glenna Bermann Radiology Employee of the Year Award, Brown was humbled. “I am very grateful that the wonderful group of people I work with would nominate me,” she said. “We all strive to lift each other up and it is nice to be recognized with this honor.”

The Max and Glenna Bermann Radiology Employee of the Year Award is named in honor of Dr. Max Bermann and Glenna Bermann, who started working at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in 1972. He was a staff radiologist and she was a radiologic technologist. Over the course of their combined 80 plus years in the Radiology Department, they demonstrated an unwavering commitment to their patients.
