2 South kitchen/terrace planning team receives PIE Award

2 South

A multidisciplinary team of 2 South staff members was recently awarded with a Partners in Excellence (PIE) Award in the category of Quality Treatment and Service. The team was recognized for working together to successfully design a unit coverage model to keep staff and patient’s safe.

The team was nominated by Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services Cori Loescher, MM, BSN, RN, NEA-BC. In her nomination, Loescher wrote, “With the unit under major reconstruction and the addition of an enclosed outdoor space for patients, the team was forced to think creatively on how they would position themselves throughout the unit while still providing safe care, creating a calm and healing environment and keeping safety as a priority. The completion of this project increased a teamwork environment amongst 2 South staff and encouraged frontline staff ownership of their daily work. Patients and staff are enjoying the new kitchen set up and are finding the new outdoor space to be a great addition to the patients’ treatment and healing.”

Upon learning of their PIE Award, co-team leader and 2 South Nurse Director Paula Knotts, MSN, RN, NE-BC, RN-BC, remarked, “It is a great honor to work with a team who came together to work through the logistics of creating a new dining area and fresh air terrace for our patients. This meant changes in the coverage and management of 2 South to include the new spaces. They approached the issue professionally and thoroughly. I am so proud that they accomplished this task and saw it through. They deserved this award whole heartedly!”
