DFCI/BWH Blood Mobile visits BWFH
The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital Blood Mobile―the traveling extension of the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center―recently visited Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital giving employees and members of the community the opportunity to give blood to support patients undergoing cancer treatments, accident victims, transplant recipients and more.
At the event, coordinated by Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital’s Community Health and Wellness Assistant Katie Plante, 34 donors volunteered yielding 27 units of blood, including four known O positives and two known O negatives, plus a variety of other blood groups/types. The blood collected can benefit at least 54 patients. Those who donated were treated to a warm grey fleece vest as a thank you gift.
“Winter months can be a challenge due to seasonal illness and inclement weather preventing people from donating, but our patients’ needs remain the same. The recent drive will be help the blood bank maintain a safe and optimal supply of blood for our patients,” says Linda Perry Blood Donor Recruiter for the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center. “We are grateful for your support―thank you all so much.”
If you missed your chance to donate blood this time, don’t worry. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital Blood Mobile will return to BWFH on Thursday, April 20.
