Brockington receives 2016 Max and Glenna Bermann Radiology Employee of the Year Award
Dr. Max Bermann and Glenna Bermann started working at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in 1972. He was a staff radiologist and she was a radiologic technologist (she still works per diem). Over the course of their combined 80 plus years in the Radiology Department, they demonstrated an unwavering commitment to their patients. Named in their honor, the Max and Glenna Bermann Radiology Employee of the Year Award is given annually to one individual in the Radiology Department who best exemplifies the qualities of professionalism, patient-centeredness, teamwork, selflessness and self initiative that are so important to achieving optimal patient care. This year’s recipient is MRI Technologist Cathy Brockington.
Brockington was nominated by MRI Supervisor Stacey Pacini. In her nomination, Pacini describes Brockington as an extraordinary and compassionate caregiver who goes above and beyond for each and every one of her patients, whether that’s providing privacy during an exam, offering a warm blanket, escorting the patient to and from their exam, keeping their loved ones informed or even buying the patient lunch. Pacini wrote, “She offers emotional support and kindness, while remaining professional and addressing all the patient’s concerns and questions. When her patients are finished with their exam, they are not only relieved, but they feel that have been well taken care of. Cathy’s patients send letters of appreciation. They feel like they are her only patient and are amazed by her care.”
Brockington was also recognized for being a team player and an excellent MRI Technologist. “She is careful and cautious,” wrote Pacini. “Her MRI scanning is impeccable. She will always obtain the best images for the Radiologist’s interpretation, which I consider an important piece of care giving.”
At the Radiology Department’s annual luncheon, the Bermanns, along with Chief of Radiology Dr. Stephen Ledbetter and Director of Radiology Brian McIntosh, were on hand to announce Brockington as this year’s recipient of the Max and Glenna Bermann Radiology Employee of the Year Award. Unfortunately, Brockington was unable to attend the event. When she learned of the honor upon returning from a vacation to Charleston, South Carolina, she said, “I am honored and humbled to be the recipient for the Bermann Award, especially knowing that there were many qualified nominees. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Stacey Pacini for her nomination letter, it left me speechless!”
